About Christmas Morning
Black Tea -
Christmas Morning tea was created specially for the holidays by our master
blenders. Some of the very best teas from around the world were hand
selected for this truly exquisite blend. Each tea adds its distinctive
flavor notes -- Indian Assam imparts a malty flavor, the Formosa Oolong
adds bright, fruity flavor notes, the China Keemun a hint of smokiness,
First Flush Darjeeling adds a flowery note, the Yunnan and Nilgiri add
richness, and the Jasmine imparts a lingering, sweet fragrance. (Continued below)
(Continued from above) The
best Assam teas from India are known for their malty character. The
climate, the soil, and the indigenous tea plants genetic make-up give
Assam teas their characteristic full-bodied strong taste and dark liquor.
Golden-Tipped Assam from the renowned Budlabeta Estate has a very
distinctive malty flavor. The abundant golden tips are a result of the
tiny fresh tips (plucked when the tea is most tender) turning a
distinctive golden color during the oxidation process.
Some of the world's finest
teas are grown in Taiwan which enjoys an excellent climate for growing
tea. Summers are very humid but not too hot, and winter temperatures
rarely drop as low as 50 degrees. The Fancy Formosa Oolong has an aroma
and taste like no other tea. The long twisted leaves, a mix of brown,
black and red with flecks of green and silver, turn a rich copper color as
they steep. This tea has a delicate but lush flavor, with a lingering
aftertaste.
Nilgiri is a Tamil word that
means ‘Blue Mountains’. The Blue Mountains are a lush range at the
southernmost tip of India, rising over the Indian Ocean with a view toward
Africa. It is a land of peaks and valleys lush with vegetation and teeming
with wildlife, most notably elephants. Nilgiri is full bodied and light in
color and aroma.
Keemun tea is named after
the Quimen precinct in southern Anhui province. Keemun Hao Ya is the
finest grade of this famous tea and is produced with the utmost skill.
‘Hao Ya’ means ‘tippy bud’ in Chinese and refers to the leaves with the
best appearance. These narrow, tightly twisted black leaves brew a
brilliant golden-red cup and add a lush, fruity, sweet flavor and a hint
of smokiness.
Tucked away in Northeast
India at an elevation of 6500 feet, Darjeeling is a small resort town.
Its breathtaking views allow the eye to travel from the scorching plains
below, upward over a succession of mountains that culminate with the
mighty Kanchenjunga, almost as high as Everest. Darjeeling teas from
India are considered the rarest and most prestigious of black teas.
Darjeeling possesses a flowery bouquet, a Muscat flavor and a mellow
quality, characteristics that the best Darjeelings are renowned for.
Yunnan is an ancient
province in southwestern China which borders Vietnam, Laos and Burma. This
cloudy, misty, mountainous province has grown tea for 1700 years. The
‘yun’ in Yunnan means ‘cloud’ and most tea in Yunnan is grown at
elevations of three thousand to seven thousand feet. Yunnan leads all
other Chinese provinces in black tea production and is known for its
broad, glossy, tippy leaves. The China Yunnan has golden buds and
produces a fine golden liquor and a full, round lingering taste.
China produces different
quality grades of Jasmine green tea with the finest named Yin Hao.
Jasmine Yin Hao has downy tips and most of the spent jasmine blossoms have
been removed. The flowers are completely dry and contain no more aroma,
they add only visual appeal and are no indication of the quality of the
tea. This tea has an intoxicating aroma and a delicate flavor.
All of these tea leaves have
been perfectly orchestrated for this beautiful blend. Stash's
Christmas Morning blend makes a very special gift. This tea may be enjoyed
anytime of the day, but makes an especially rich morning cup. It
certainly can be enjoyed any time of the year! |
