"Victory Gardening in W.W.II-era America" Added to Site Are you old enough to remember W.W.II? Have you seen the recent movies? Are you interested in learning a tiny bit about one aspect of life on the home front during this period of our history? The concept of Victory Gardening should not have died in 1946. Along with harvesting high quality produce and enjoying the peace that one finds in the garden, gardening provides opportunities to help others. Many communities have food banks, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and senior centers that gladly accept produce. So, sow a couple of extra rows for those less fortunate than you. [Note: If you are using a slower modem connection, please be patient.] Victory Seed's own Mike Dunton is guest moderator on NWGarden.com's, vegetable, herb and propagation gardening forums. Drop by to ask and help answer questions. Although the focus is on issues relating to gardening in the Pacific North West, all gardeners are welcome.

New News! Salsify: An Uncommon Vegetable We recently added 'Mammoth Sandwich Island' Salsify to our offerings. It took us quite some time to locate a source and we are not sure if they will have it available in the future. We feel that this vegetable is a hidden gardening gem. It is nutritional, very cold hardy, and tasty. If you would like to learn more, we have created several informational pages. - Y2K Update - Because we have received so many requests, we have put together a "Y2K Canned Victory Garden". Follow the link at the bottom of this article. As you probably know, open pollinated seeds are a hot commodity this year. Seed stock is quickly selling out. We are working hard to maintain inventory and are still able to ship most orders the next business day. Our Web site is maintained to reflect available items only. Personally, we hope that cultivating open pollinated plants becomes your gardening tradition and that you will all start practicing seed saving. That is what we are all about!
