120 days — 'Big Max', as its name implies, will commonly grow big; fifty to seventy pounds big. It will never set any world records, but with a little special attention, its fruit can surpass one hundred pounds. As you might imagine, it does needs plenty of room to grow. It is a beautiful variety popular for pumpkin patches, u-pick operations, roadside stands, yard decorations, etc. Although primarily marketed as an ornamental variety and for carving into Jack O'Lanterns, its three to four inch thick, bright-yellow orange flesh is of excellent cooking quality as well.

Originally introduced by the W. Atlee Burpee Company in their 1964 seed annual. Each packet contains four grams, which is approximately 16 to 20 seeds.

Planting Instructions: After all danger of frost is passed and the weather has warmed, plant four to five seeds, 1 inch deep, in hills spaced 6 feet apart. When seedlings are 2 inches tall, thin to 2 plants per hill. Pumpkins prefer rich soil. Feed at planting time and again at the 4 to 5 leaf development stage.

Keep watered during the dry weather and cultivate or mulch to reduce weeds. Harvest fruit when skin has turned completely orange and it cannot be easily dented with your fingernail. Cut from vine leaving a two inch stem. Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it. Informational References:
