Description
Cal Ace

80 days, semi-determinate — 'Cal Ace', also seen marketed as "Cal-Ace," is an improved version of 'Ace'. It tends to be a bit earlier maturing, has thicker walls, and exhibits better disease resistance that the original. Another positive trait is its ability to set fruit (pollinate) in warmer weather where other varieties might drop its blossoms.

The fruits are oblate-shaped, smooth skinned, ripen uniformly and are meaty and sweet. Although developed as a variety for production farms, it is also an excellent choice for smaller market growers and home gardeners. We often raise this one in our family's "kitchen garden" and enjoy it from early mid-season until the first frost takes them. Nothing like garden fresh tomato sandwiches in October.

It was submitted to the National Seed Storage Lab in 1971, by the now defunct Petoseed Company, and assigned the USDA accession number PI 645372. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds and there are approximately 100 seeds per 0.25 gram.
