Dr. Wyche's Yellow

87 days, indeterminate — The golden-yellow fruit are large (up to twenty-eight ounces), turn orange at maturity and are oblate in shape. They are meaty, firm textured, and excellent flavored. A great slicing tomato. One of the best yellow beefsteaks available.

This tomato was originally sent to Craig LeHoullier in 1992 by John D. Green (of 'Cherokee Purple' fame). Craig was the first to make it available to the general public. Mr. Green stated that Dr. John Wyche (who also released 'Cherokee Trail of Tears' bean) sent him this variety just before he passed away in 1985. Dr. Wyche had actually called it 'Hot Yellow' but after his passing, and prior to its commercial release, it was renamed in his honor. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
