Faribo Golden Heart

80 days, indeterminate — 'Faribo Golden Heart' has attractive, regular leaf plants that set fruit that are three to six ounces in weight, are globe to heart-shaped, and a beautiful golden-orange color. The flesh is juicy and tasty with thick walls and very few seeds. They are flavored like a red tomato (slightly tart) and not sweet and as mild as you would expect based on its orange color.

Here on the farm in Northwestern Oregon, it holds up well for us and does not split in the wet, late fall weather like other varieties do. 'Faribo Golden Heart' was bred and introduced by the Farmer Seed & Nursery Company of Faribault, Minnesota in 1955. For those interested in details, its pedigree is somewhat complex; it is open-pollinated variety resulting from stabilizing an F5 selection from a yellow F2 segregate from 'Pritchard' crossed with ('Firesteel' and 'Tiny Tim').[1] Our parent stock grown from USDA ARS accession number NSL 5817 who received the seed directly from Farmer Seed in 1961. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it.
