Burpee's Trucker's Favorite

75 days, indeterminate — Burpee's 'Trucker's Favorite' produces medium to large sized, pink fruited tomatoes, ranging in weight from six to twelve ounces and have a fair resistance to cracking. They are uniform globe shaped and ripen evenly. Plants are strong and produce very good yields of the old-fashioned tasting tomatoes, right up until frost.

Originated in Burlington County, New Jersey, it was introduced commercially by W. Atlee Burpee in 1892.[1] Here is what they had to say in their 1893 catalog:
"It is one of the largest Tomatoes grown, and is more regular in shape and size than any other variety we know of. Color purplish-red, very solid, firm flesh, a good keeper, and not subject to rot or crack on the vines. It is an excellent shipper, and sold in Philadelphia markets at better prices than any other variety offered at the same time. Ripens evenly to the stem, is a strong, healthy grower, not subject to rust or blight, is an enormous cropper, and produces until the vines are killed by frost, holding its size exceeding well until the last picking. Quality the very best, and for cooking and slicing purposes it cannot be excelled. It is in every way a desirable variety for Market Gardeners, hence the name,'Truckers' Favorite.'"
Our original sample was sent to us by David Pendergrass. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

Although the name or description of this variety refers to a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsmen that originally released it. Informational References:
