Wapsipinicon Peach

80 days, indeterminate — 'Wapsipinicon Peach', also known as 'Yellow Peach', is a very interesting and productive variety. Its fruit are two inches in diameter, globe-shaped, yellow in color with interesting, fuzzy skin. They are juicy, sweet and very mild with a wonderful, tiny bit of tart taste that lingers on your taste buds. Perfect as a snacking fruit as it needs no accompaniment.

In her book entitled, "The Heirloom Tomato: From Garden to Table: Recipes, Portraits, and History of the World's Most Beautiful Fruit," Amy Goldman credits the origin of peach tomatoes to the plant breeding work of Elbert S. Carman, owner and editor of The Rural New-Yorker magazine. He introduced it in 1890 under the name of 'White Peach'. Seed companies immediately began listing the novelty under various synonyms and by the early 1900s, the efforts of their own breeding work had resulted in several new "peach-type" varieties. 'Wapsipinicon Peach', named after the Wapsipinicon River in Iowa, was originally shared with seed savers by Dennis Schlicht. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.
