Fantastic Sauerkraut Cabbage!
This cabbage was a real producer! Seeds germinated well and transplants were of average vigor and hardiness. We had an unusually warm summer (temps frequently in the 80's and 90's), but these cabbages seemed to handle it just fine! They did have adequate overhead watering, and were partially shaded from the late afternoon sun by the corn patch. The heads were enormous and very firm - most of them were 12-14" across! They were an attractive blue-green on the outside, and very light green inside. We had a little problem with splitting after a heavy fall rain, but most survived without deep cracks.
In summary, a perfect cabbage for preserving, but perhaps a little too large for exclusively fresh use.
