Classified as a "flue-cured" type tobacco, cured 'Jamaica Wrapper' leaves exhibit no surface puckering, typically are twelve inches wide by twenty-four inches long, being broadest at the middle and narrower at the two equal ends, tapering to a pointed apex with more or less straight sides. The cured leaf has a characteristic deep orange color and a somewhat oily texture and finish.[1]
The plants grow to about fifty inches tall when topped, or can reach upwards of seven feet when allowed to develop flower heads; its flowers are pink. Our seed originated from USDA accession number PI 552316 and is grown for us by David Pendergrass from Tennessee.
Tobacco plants are very interesting, ornamental, and have uses apart from consumption. This section of the website is intended for the historical and informational purposes of thinking adults. Anyone who has been raised since the turn of the 20th century already knows that tobacco can be addictive and can contribute to various medical ailments. If you do not smoke, it would seem illogical to start. We in no way encourage people to use any form of tobacco product.
