Classified as a cigar wrapper type tobacco, 'Jorge Grande' was historically used for wrappers and twists. The plants grows to about fifty-seven inches tall when topped, or can reach seven feet tall when allowed to develop its attractive pink to red flowers.

Its downward curling leaves have wavy margins, a smooth surface, and are broadest at the middle and narrower at the two equal ends, with the length approximately twice the width. Typical leaves are eleven inches wide by twenty-one inches long, and according the USDA tests, it averages 11.2mg of nicotine per gram of cured leaf.

Donated to the USDA by the Instituto Agronomico do Estado de Sao Paulo, Campinas, Brazil, on 4 Sep 1959. Our seed originated from USDA accession number PI 260368 and is grown for us by David Pendergrass from Tennessee.
