Description
Vardaman

90 days, bush-type — 'Vardaman' sweet potatoes have light orange skins and darker flesh with no strings. It is a very delicious eating potato as well as a good storage variety.

Since it is a non-vining variety it is ideal for gardeners with small spaces. It is compact, and with its beautiful purple and blue vegetation, quite attractive as well. Some folks even use them for their ornamental value in their flowerbeds but with the added bonus at the end of the season.

Named after the famous sweet potato town of Vardaman, Mississippi, it was bred by the Mississippi Agricultural Extension Service and introduced in 1981.

Note: 'Vardaman' should grow fine in most all states with exception of Northern States who must take the extra step of warming the soil two to three weeks before your plants arrive. This is accomplished by hilling your soils into beds or raised rows and covering them with black plastic.

SPECIAL ORDERING NOTES: Please carefully read the ordering and shipping policies found on the main sweet potato category page - click here. There is no way of accommodating special requests. The fulfillment of sweet potato plant orders is extremely time consuming and even more so, time sensitive.

Your order will be shipped to you in the date range for your zone as described. Please note that even if the cart shows First Class Postage, plants ship out from the farm in Tennessee on Mondays and Tuesdays using U.S. Priority Mail. With these methods, plants are healthy and strong when they arrive.

As a reminder, sweet potatoes can ONLY be sent to the LOWER 48 STATES and ship using the U.S. Postal Service. In order to minimize delays or lost packages, please provide a valid U.S. Mail address.
