Oxheart

85 days, indeterminate — Livingston's 'Giant Oxheart', also known as "Livingston's Oxheart," has plants grow vigorously and require staking. Their regular-type leaves are droopy and somewhat wispy, typical of many oxheart varieties. The fruit are large, pink in color, and as their name implies, heart-shaped.

Originally introduced by the Livingston Seed Company in 1926, here is how they described it in their 1933:
"Oxheart is truly the giant of all tomatoes. Its attractive shape, large size and excellent table qualities has quickly brought it into deserved popularity among backyard gardeners. Market-growers are finding it in great demand. There is now great rivalry in gardening neighborhoods to see who can grow the finest Oxheart in shape and size. Three pound specimens are quite common. One customer sent us a five pound specimen.

The Oxheart is smooth, thick, tender and almost seedless; frequently showing two inches thick without a seed cavity. The color is pink and it has that delicious mild flavor that every lover of this fruit likes so well. Rich soil adds greatly to its productiveness. Late variety."
Our seed originated from accession number NSL 193993 obtained from the National Seed Storage Lab. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

Although the name of this variety contains a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsman that originally released it.
