Tanunda Red Certified Naturally Grown Seed Open Source Seed Initiative

75 days, determinate dwarf — 'Tanunda Red' is a vigorous, rugose, regular leaf variety that produces good amounts of fruits that are vibrant red in color. They are medium-sized (four to ten ounce), smooth, oblate in shape, juicy with a delicious, well-balanced flavor that is neither too tart or too sweet. A very good slicer type.

Developed by members of the "Dwarf Tomato Project" this variety originated from a cross between an early generation "Sleepy Family" selection called 'Wilpena' and 'Cherokee Purple' made by Patrina Nuske Small in 2008 and named 'Plentiful.' 'Tanunda Red' was selected and named by Patrina. Also involved in its development were Craig LeHoullier, Carol Knapp, Sandra Tipton, Marsha Eisenberg, and Bill Minkey.

Introduced in 2016. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

In an effort to keep this variety available to home gardeners, 'Tanunda Red' has been released by "The Dwarf Tomato Project" (the breeder) to the public under the Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI). You have the freedom to use these OSSI-Pledged seeds in any way you choose. In return, if you save seeds or use 'Tanunda Red' to breed a new variety, you pledge not to restrict others' use of these seeds or their derivatives by patents or other means, and to include this pledge with any transfer of these seeds or their derivatives. Rich and delicious!
Grew on my deck in large pot. Excellent growth but needs support. Was not as productive as 'Summer Sunrise', but I only grew one plant. We will see next year if it was just my cultural failings. Flavor is truly wonderful! The squirrels agree!
