— The rugose
, potato-leaf plants of 'Wilpena' reach three to four feet in height by the end of the season and produce red colored, oblate shaped, juicy yet meaty, delicious, mild, well-balanced flavored slicing tomatoes. Although fruits average eight to twelve ounces each, they seem to be prone to double-blossomed first fruits that can make it up to twenty-eight ounces.
The "Sleepy family
" originated from a cross made between 'Stump of the World' and 'Budai Torpe' by Patrina Nuske Small in 2005. 'Wilpena' was selected and named by Patrina after the Wilpena Pound; a huge natural mountainous amphitheater in the Flinders Range of South Australia. Significant contributions were made by Craig LeHoullier
and Willa Osis, with Bill Minkey growing the final seed increase. Each packet contains at least 20 seeds.
