21st Century

Garden like your life depends on it!™

OVERVIEW: This section of our web site is intended for those folks who either already rely on their gardens for all or part of their daily food supply or for those who are interested in taking their gardening hobby to the next level. Whether you call what you do prepping, homesteading, survival gardening, or victory gardening, we hope that you will find this resource useful.

As a foundational principle of the Victory Seed Company's primary mission, all of the seeds offered by us are open-pollinated and in the public domain. With some practice, any of them can be grown to maturity and seed saved from year to year. Our seeds are quite literally, seeds for survival.

What is a Victory Garden anyway?

The classic definition of a Victory Garden, also known as "War Gardens," is well founded in human history. The most recent example of widespread, small scale, citizen food production occurred during World War II. You can click here for a presentation on that era of subsistence gardening (there is value in learning about our ancestor's efforts).

In the context of our modern, chaotic, confusing and crazy times, when wars are being declared on concepts (i.e. hunger, terror, drugs, etc.) instead of against enemy nations, there are many reasons to raise your own food. Some of these include:

  1. Ensuring your access to pure, healthy, real food.

  2. To save money on your food budget.

  3. To connect to our agrarian past.

  4. To practice food sovereignty.

  5. To express your personal freedom over the food industry and governmental authority.

The list is endless and very personal. Whatever your motivation, declare your Victory and plant a garden today.

Find great heirloom quality seeds that you can save your own seeds from!

Regarding long-term storage, seed banks, survival seeds, seeds for prepping . . .

If you are worried about an uncertain future and are thinking about spending your money on one of the many off-the-shelf seed products sold by opportunistic merchants, please consider the following . . . simply storing seeds on a shelf for "someday" is not a good form of insurance and therefore a bad prep.

Seeds are living, breathing entities and like any living thing, their life expectancy is built into their genetic code. Preparing for disaster and food shortages requires more than seeds on a shelf. It is more about learning and continually developing your gardening, seed saving, and food preservation skills. It needs to become part of your lifestyle. Like any learned skill, it will be time well spent!

The reality is that seeds die over time. Even under professional storage conditions of ultra low seed moisture and subzero temperatures, seed banks must schedule regular grow outs to ensure the survival of seed varieties. Nature intended for seeds to be planted, to live a full life, and to make more seeds.

Besides, there is no such thing as a "one size fits all" garden in a can. Aside from personal taste preferences, your climate and skill level will affect your success with specific plant varieties. There is no reason to buy one of these products with varieties that are included only based on what the seller could cheaply find in bulk.

Garden Can FAQ

Canned Victory Garden: Featuring Victory Seeds®

One of our basic needs as human beings is the nourishment of our bodies. Learning to produce some of your own food is rewarding financially, physically, mentally and spiritually. If you are worried about an uncertain future and never want to experience hunger, a good form of insurance is not to simply store seeds for that proverbial "someday." You will be greatly disappointed. Instead, begin to actively garden and learn to be a seed saver.
