Pike Certified Naturally Grown Seed
 Cucumis melo L. Reticulatus Group

80 days — The plants are vigorous and productive producing fruits that are heavily netted and depending on the growing conditions, weighing between three and six pounds each.  The light-orange colored flesh is fragrant, juicy and sweet.  An excellent choice for both home gardens and growers producing for a local market.  They are too tender to store or ship well.

This Oregon heirloom was selected by Mr. Aaron Pike of Monmouth, Oregon (Pike & Young Seed Company) in the 1930s.  A stabilized cross between ‘Spear’ and ‘Hearts of Gold', he bred ‘Pike’ melon for its ability to thrive in heavy, dry soil.  When dry farmed under those conditions, the melons average about three pounds each.  However, when grown in rich, irrigated soils, their size doubles.

Each packet contains 0.5 gram, which is approximately 15 to 18 seeds.
