Marhio
(Livingston's Marvelous)

70 days, semi-determinate — 'Marhio' is another disease resistant tomato variety in the 'Marglobe' family. As such, its fruit are medium sized (four to eight ounce), smooth, meaty, and globular to slightly oblate in shape. Whereas 'Marglobe' is a red-fruited variety, 'Marhio' is a deep pink color. It also seems to produce heavier and earlier.[1]

Developed by I. C. Hoffman of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station by means of a pink-fruited segregate from 'Marglobe' in 1928.[1] In 1935, the Livingston Seed Company released it using the name 'Marvelous' but still referenced this as a synonym of 'Marhio'.[2] In the same year, we found record of it being sold as far away as Australia by Herbert J. Rumsey & Sons, Ltd. of New South Wales.[3]

Our stock was grown out from USDA GRIN accession number NSL 193997 that we obtained in 2003. After several years of growing out from multiple accessions and performing the necessary historical research and comparison, we were happy to reintroduce 'Marhio' to gardeners for the 2013 gardening season. Each packet contains approximately 20 seeds.

Although the name of this variety contains a modern company's name, the seed we are offering is in no way sourced from, "owned by" or connected with that company. The name is simply the historically accurate, common name for the variety giving credit to the seedsman that originally released it.
