Classified as an "Oriental" tobacco, 'Bahia' can grow to about thirty inches tall. Its leaves tend to be long and narrow, about twice as long as wide (eight inches wide by fifteen inches long), smooth, high quality, and historically used for cigar wrappers.

Bahia is a tobacco growing region in Brazil known for their "black tobacco" cigar wrappers. Seeds of this cigar tobacco were presented to the USDA by the Instituto Agronomico do Estado de Sao Paulo; Campinas, Brazil on September 4, 1959. Our seed originated from USDA accession number PI 260362. Our seed stock is grown for us by David Pendergrass from Tennessee.
